Signs of spring

Yesterday we headed out to Bishopville which is actually back in MD where a friend told me her snow drops were blooming.  We have none around here in the beach area that I know of, so the trip became a good photo opportunity.

Snow drops bloom tiny and very close to the ground.  Jim was crouched down on his belly to get these pictures.

So dainty.

Not too far away I saw a blooming Lenten rose plant.

Many open flowers and some buds.

I'd call that a very successful photo shoot!

George

When I was growing up, George Washington's birthday was celebrated on the day, February 22nd.  This before Presidents' Day was established as a tribute to both Lincoln and Washington, and an opportunity for a long weekend of shopping opportunities in mid- February.  Associated with the day was cherry pie...you know, the tale of George chopping down his father's cherry tree.
These CHERRY HAND PIES are a yummy smaller version.....

Pie crust is rolled out and filled with a mixture of cherries and raspberry jam.

Egg wash is brushed on and covered with sugar.

Oh, yes!

Valentine's Day

This beautiful handmade bowl, sculpted from a holly tree, the state's tree, was my Valentine's Day gift today!

The craftsman is the spouse of our favorite local muffin
baker.

These are the goodies I baked for our women's club Valentine's Day tea raffle.
They are raspberry-chocolate rugelach and chocolate heart cookies.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Busy bird

This little guy has been at work for about three weeks now making a round hole in the side of our house.  He is noisy and very industrious.

Wonder what happens when he is finished?
