Candy Kitchen

Will and Jenni were here this weekend and Will collected more beach favorites.  Candy Kitchen is high on his list.  He is selecting Lego Blocks candy for today's fav.  Wax bottles are also good as they are Eva's pick as well.
So here it is almost the end of September and we STILL had beautiful beach days this weekend until today when the rain and cool air moved in.
Finally, Fall!

Athletes

We spent yesterday morning watching our Kent Island athletes excel in their games.
At 8 am Ella is out playing soccer which big sis Kylie gets up for to cheer her on.  Whatta sister!!!!  It is obvious that Ella is loving her first year of soccer, and to her delight, can kick equally well left or right-footed!

Keelyn plays field hockey fiercely!!!  All members of the Shewolves play very well together.  One wonders what a dynamo they will be when they play high school field hockey!
Keelyn is showing that she made FIVE goals in yesterday's game.

Will at the beach

Jenni and Will are here this week, the first week following the summer rush.
The beaches are less crowded and just sitting and watching Will's antics and the dolphins is very relaxing.  He has learned all his favorite names and places, Candy Kitchen, DB Fries, Kite Tails, Five Guys, and any ice cream place.
Here he shares lunch and a milkshake with his mom.  At home at the beach, he has become a real beach bum!

A sad good bye to summer, 2010

As you can see, our Labor Day crowd is sadly mourning the passing of Summer, 2010.  We had just watched the New Orleans funeral procession pass by on the boardwalk.  This annual event marks the official end of summer.  We are sad, but remember all the fun that summer brought us.  And next summer will be here before we know it!
Until then, we enjoy empty beaches and reuniting with our local friends!

Earl-day

Earl came and went without much stir here this afternoon.  Some wind and rain and heavy pounding surf at high tide this afternoon, BUT no flooding or damage done.....phew!
We walked the town this morning, disappointed that our favorite bakery was closed.

But Maureen, our coffee lady was open and serving coffee in her HURRICANE EARL shirt.

Pounding surf this morning........

And at high tide.
Now, on with the Labor Day weekend!
Thank you, Weather Fairy.

Getting ready for Earl-day

Earl will be here tomorrow and the beach prepares for his arrival.  We were at the beach this afternoon watching the preparations unfold.
The Elvis concert has been rescheduled.....glad it wasn't cancelled as it is one of our favorites.

At the bookstore a book on hurricanes is displayed in the front window.

Tide pools were formed with the incoming tide and pounding surf.

And the life guards remove their chairs from the beach.  Expected high winds could propel these chairs causing lots of damage.

....and now we wait.

Here comes Earl......

Surf's up and getting rougher as we anticipate what Earl will bring us.  Beach erosion is inevitable, though we are hoping to be spared this damage.  Stay tuned.

Pick of the day

Our little backyard garden is producing like crazy!!!!!  Had a little rain last week and our neighbor John waters our plot everyday.  All we planted this year was cherry tomatoes, yellow tomatoes and green peppers with marigolds thrown in to ward off bugs.  The fence Jim installed around the perimeter has kept out critters.  Let's see....next year we will add squash, watermelon, lettuce, spinach, cucumbers........
