Harvest fun on the eastern shore

This is what we eastern shore people do on cool Fall weekends:  we run and we eat, listen to music and eat some more.  Then there's the autumn beer.  We are known for it!  Dogfish Head has lots of competition from other local breweries making pumpkin ale.  All good.

In this run Jim ran a 5K through a corn field grown just for today's event.

before......

....... and after.  His time  31:44.  Free brats and beer as we waited for the award ceremony.

Next barbeque was at the Center for the Inland Bays party at James Farm.....Bethany Blues BBQ, beer and warm apple and pumpkin pies.

and music.

The art of racing in the rain

Funny that we just finished listening to the book The Art of Racing in the Rain and this weekend watched Layne do the same!  We were at an invitational cross country  event at Hereford High School, very close to driving into PA near York.  Lots of high schools represented, the course a challenging one and the weather warm and beautiful until.......let's just say that it is a good thing Layne enjoys a rainy run!

Layne is in this group of JV girls as they started the run.

Here she comes about halfway through the course and it is pouring.
Run on, Layne!  She was smiling as she finished the course.

Game weekend

This was the first Fall weekend of watching some of our grands play sports.  It was a beautiful weekend and the games were played under clear, sunny skies.

Kylie is a Varsity cheer leader for her high school Kent Island HS.  Friday evening was the first home game.  KI won 37-7.  The game honored all veterans with a fly-over by a T-38, a WWII trainer plane, a color guard and the American flag flying off the fire dept's ladder truck;  the band played well......and of course, we loved watching the cheerleaders.

GO BUCS!    (Buccaneers)

Sam is Kylie's bearded dragon and yesterday came along to watch field hockey and soccer.

Keelyn's team the Krushers won!

Keelyn is a great player!  Field hockey is a good spectator sport.

Ella is fun to watch.  She is everywhere and fast!

She has good command of the ball.  Her team name is Flash.

Anniversary eating

Celebrating our 46th anniversary made for some good opportunities for eating.

Jenni and Larry took us to a neat place where we ate cheese on fire......so good!

Here we are with Carol and Rex, old and dear friends in town this week.  We celebrated locally and ate seafood.

A day with Will

We took over day care for Will today as his regular person was unable to care for him today.  The morning included his pre school open house and a visit to Mr. Knick Knack at Clarendon Commons.

Mr. Knick Knack sings songs and is a great entertainer for young and old alike.

And he gives out neat stickers after his concert.

Good bye to summer

For many years Bethany Beach has paid tribute to the close of summer with a New Orleans-style funeral parade and a celebratory run of the life guards.

The parade marches down the boardwalk.

And the life guards run onto the beach.

Then in their tidy-whities, they run out into the ocean.

And  they pose for pictures.

Jim's shirt says it all.

Fish tacos and a mangorita are how we celebrated the end of summer at Mangos.

Blue moon over blue bridge

Sat at the Indian River outlet with the mosquitoes and flies last night to get this picture of the blue moon (that is, the second full moon in the month of August) over the blue-lighted Indian River bridge.
I think the picture is worth the bug annoyance.
