Snow on the cove

What the......?  Snow at the end of March...and 3 inches of it!  What a trick of nature to follow up a warm beach day with a snowfall on this beautiful weeping willow in Dave and Ann Marie's cove.  The snow was gone by mid day, but more is predicted during this cold, un-spring-like week.

Soccer star

Today was Jack's first soccer game of the season and boy, does he know how to play!  He helped his team win by scoring one of the goals.  The weather was in the low 40s...way too cold to play a spring sport.

Perigee moon

"Supermoon" looks pretty much like any other full moon though maybe a little brighter.   It is said that the full moon will not be this bright or close to the earth for another 20 years. This is how it looks tonight rising over David and Ann Marie's house on the cove.

Rain barrel

Here is our new rain barrel, designed to catch rain coming off the roof into the gutters and down to the receptacle.  Just another way we are trying to save our resources.  We will use this water to irrigate our veggie garden.

Big birthday......

We spent Sunday with the Haarhoffs to celebrate Kylie's 14th birthday.  Here she is with her birthday cake following her favorite food at Big Bats after practicing lacrosse all afternoon.  What a lovely young lady!

More signs of spring

More merchants are opening up at the beach this weekend, bringing more people.
We are getting a Thrasher's Fries....and we have a new ice cream place!

Signs of spring

Moving sand and rebuilding dunes.

New growth everywhere despite cold temps and strong wind.

March at the beach means fickle weather, wind, and slowly emerging signs of Spring.  Lenten soup and salad suppers, budding crocuses along the main road to the beach, and the return of local business and restaurant owners all signal the end of a long, cold winter and the beginning of a new season.

Tybee Island, GA

We climbed the 178 steps to the top of the Tybee Island lighthouse today.  Walked through the restored cottages the light house keepers lived in.

Looking up at the light.

Gator Land

One of the big guys........

A nesting egret....Jim was able to get up front and personal with a number of them and enjoyed chatting with other visiting photographers doing the same.  These people travel with tripods and large bags of camera equipment just as Jim does.
And, no, the gators are not interested in snacking on all the birds around as they stay very well fed by their trainers and visitors to the park.
