Big guns inside a WW II bunker

This weekend saw us attending an open house in this restored World War II bunker located in nearby Cape Henlopen State Park. To the right is a 12 " naval gun pointed out across the Delaware River, protecting industries up river such as Dupont and shipyards in Philadelphia.  The bunker has been meticulously restored and will soon become a living history museum.

Phones were used to communicate with the 3 nearby lookout towers.  Nine lookout towers can still be seen along the coastline.  Personnel working here are dressed in 1940s attire.....quite a walk back in time!

Sunday nature trip

This afternoon we drove to Assawoman Wildlife Area, practically in our back yard and yet hidden to our knowledge until Jim's camera club picked it for the site of some spring photo shooting.  What we were looking for, pink lady slippers, have not bloomed yet, but Jim took some lovely shots of the water areas and an eagle in flight.  We had a nice drive through the 2000+ acres of this park and particularly liked the well kept picnic and observation pavilions built during the Depression.

Easter at the beaches in Hilton Head and Bethany Beach

I left you off with Jack on the beach in Hilton Head.  Here are Layne and Eva enjoying one of the pools......weather-perfect!  Except for the pollen which messed with Jim.
Home for Easter and a visit from Jenni and Will and Lisbeth and Kylie, Keelyn and Ella and bulldog pup, Khloe.  We had an Easter egg hunt and Will tried out his new butterfly net scooping eggs out of our backyard swamp.
Again perfect weather which got warmer as the week went on, so that we were actually sitting on OUR beach in early April!
