Post-storm ocean

This is how the ocean looked today after last night's powerful windstorm.

Lots of spray

Looking for snow geese

The cold continues here and today we went looking for snow geese.  Instead at sunset we found ice all around.

The life of pi(e)

Harry and David was having a big sale on pears and I bought two boxes.  So what to do with all those pears?  Give them away and make a pie....a pear pie?   Found a recipe for spice apple pear pie and off I went......

Peel pears and apples and stir in all the spices.

Then cook this mixture with butter and sugar.....yummy already!

Egg mixture and more sugar on the top crust.

First snow

The predicted snow came during the night and this morning the sun was shining after a week of rain.
We walked the boardwalk and found great photos waiting to be taken.

Chili cook-off

Our church held a chili cook-off tonight, money earned to help support our work in the summer with our international students who come to the beach to work.

Mine was one of six pots of chili competing.  I named it Steamin' Beans.

It took the better part of a day to prepare and get ready to slow cook in my crock pot.

It was very rich with beef, beans and lots of fragrant spices.

Someone else won, but I had lots of $ in my basket!  All fun.

Running in the new year

Jim is ready for today's run, The Hair of the Dog.  He will run a 5K.

I will walk it......3 miles.  Yikes!

Off go the runners.......over 775 in all!

I am done and my feet hurt!

Jim did well...... and then we went to Mangos for our runners' brunch.

And then some really crazy people ran into the ocean......
