Pirate mini golf

Always a gift shop and "stuff".  This time pirate rings.

Beach bums

Finally back to the beach!  Spent the day in Rehoboth making pottery and watching 3D, so finally got to the beach this evening.  Joyous reaction!  Gentle waves and mild weather.

National Air and Space Center at Dulles

Completing our time in museums, we took Jack and Ella to the really BIG museum of all things air and space in Dulles where even the Space Shuttle Discovery is housed in a huge hangar.

Outside the museum on a beautiful clear summer day

Up in the control tower, Jack and Ella see the same screen the air traffic controllers see at Dulles Airport.

The kids loved the vastness of the exhibits.

Look up to see them.

Spy museum

This week we have the pleasure of a visit from Jack and Ella.  We began in Virginia, staying with Jenni, Larry and Will.  Larry and Will helped us navigate the Metro into DC to the Spy Museum.  Together we spent most of our time in the gift shop buying spy stuff which makes them look like clandestine kids as we walk through DC  and ride back on the Metro.

Waiting for the Metro....Ella's first ride.
"It was really fun and really fast!"

Millville farmers market

Millville is a small town just west of us.  It has a fire department, a town hall, a little Methodist church and on Thursdays in the summer a local farmer's market.  The produce is fresh and very inexpensive.  One buys from the farmer, getting tips on how to prepare and eat what s/he is selling.  Today's tip was from a young woman who suggested we try eating her fresh sweet corn, uncooked.  "Come back next week and tell me how you like it!"  We will.

Besides fruits and vegetables, vendors come with baked goods.  We bought a half loaf of seeded wheat bread, planning on having a lettuce, tomato and mayo sandwich for lunch.  Not to forget our favorite peaches from Bennett's orchards.
On the way back to our car, one of the church ladies was under a tent selling   cookbooks.  She offered us some peanut brittle she had just made. Crunch.....yum!
(BTW, the purple veggie in the picture is a pepper.)

What's new at the beach?

Monday night at the movies!  Starring our new inflatable movie screen on which movies are projected.  Movie goers bring chairs and blankets and relax on the beach to watch.

Popcorn and ice cream in hand, the crowd assembles for tonight's movie.

Last strawberries

Think that we have had our fill of fresh strawberries as their long reign over the fresh fruit corner of our local market is waning.

In honor of finishing our last bowl of this delicious fruit, I made strawberry biscuits....also made some strawberry lemonade.

Day at Assateague

Here I am with Wayne and Joanne, our dear friends who visited with us this week.  We are at Assateague where we got up close to the wild ponies who were enjoying beach time.  The newest pony is in the background laying down for her nap.  She has been named Giggles.

The ponies travel in bands (like families) with a mare who takes the lead and a stallion who stays in the back and protects from danger of other stallions who try to steal the mares and people who come too close.  Here are the mares in this band all lined up for the photographer.

Still strawberries

Strawberries were early this year and are still being harvested.  How fine is that to have a long strawberry season?

These are our strawberries...we share with the birds.

And here is my scratch angel food strawberry cream cake.....thanks, Martha!  I think I nailed it.

Music and moon

Ella (top left) is being patriotic and waving a flag during her spring concert.

And Layne sings her heart out during her concert (she is 2nd from left in the 2nd from bottom row).

Here is Keelyn at her spring concert on Monday evening.  The blue scarf she wears with her black and white dress denotes Select Singer, a special group of very talented middle schoolers who also sang in the concert.

Last night Jim took pictures of our new Indian River Bridge as the full moon rose.   Blue lights shine up to the suspension cables and the look is unique, especially in the moon light.
