Halloween

"Come on in....I have vaccine!" Dr. Ghoul will see you now......
We recruited 2 Trick or Treaters, delivering one bag to our neighbor in the back. This is just not a kid-friendly neighborhood. Esp. not with the doctor and his syringe at the door.

Storm damage and champion cheerleading

Meanwhile, on the weekend of Bobby's birthday we watched Ella's cheerleading squad, coached by Mommy and ass't coached by Kylie (here with Ella) take a #1 in their division! The trophy sits proudly on Ella's book shelf.

Last weekend the area took a hit from TWO nor'easters! This is what caused the flooding in our development. At the beach, the dune was eroded by high waves, especially at a very high tide, but the town was protected (purpose of the dune in the first place). The tracks in the sand are from a front end loader already moving sand to rebuild access to the beach boardwalk.

Damage to the fences that help protect the dune.

Birthday sunset

What a great day I had, shopping, eating in my favorite places, walking the Rehoboth boardwalk and seeing Where the Wild Things Are which we both loved! On the way home, we were treated to this bayside sunset. Thanks for the phone calls and cards and all the emails today......what a lucky person I am!

Indoor camping birthday party

Well, this was the weekend for our combined birthday party/ camping trip. We took it in inside to Lisbeth's when a nor'easter dumped rain and high winds on the area, and camped out overnight INSIDE. Three cakes, a giant cookie and a pie mark the birthdays of David, Lorie, Layne, Bobby and Larry. Dempsey, the Haarhoff boxer is very interested.

Here is what the front of our house looks like with the Salt Pond flooded onto our property right up to our front steps! In the foreground is a flower garden, pretty soggy, and with the rain gauge Dave and AM gave us still standing....wonder how many inches of rain it registers?

Halloween display

Here is the Halloween display we set up in our neighborhood. It consists of old shutters which hold a spider web, bats, crows, spooky hands and WANTED posters. Jim has put a spot light on it so it can be seen at night.

Field hockey and cheerleading

This weekend's spectator sport was field hockey and Keelyn is the star you see here with her stick on the ball. What energy she has! The weather was fickle today: some rain, some clouds and a lot of wind...then the temps began to drop.

So, by the time we watched our little cheerleader Ella (middle) it was getting very cool. Her squad is coached by Mommy (Lisbeth) and assisted by Kylie. Ella loves to cheer and shows her spirit! She cheers for the local football team, the Piranhas.

Farmer's market

On Tuesday at the Rehoboth Beach Farmer's Market we were serenaded by a bag piper while we shopped. The vendors were generous with free samples, so we grazed our way through a number of booths. Lots of Fall veggies made for a very colorful scene.

Moon rise

We stood and watched the moon rise over the ocean this evening and as we watched more people came out to watch with us. It is a clear night and the moon 98 per cent full. What a thrill to be present for such a commonplace event.

Soccer and goats

This weekend we enjoyed being with Dave, Ann Marie, Layne, Eva and Jack. We hiked and watched Eva's soccer game (she is a great player) and ate yummy food and desserts.....

Today we hiked in the Chestnut Land Trust where some 30 goats had been "employed" to eat vegetation and poison ivy....all behind an electric fence to keep them contained. They were interested in seeing us, but did not stop their chewing for conversation.
Back home we watched a full moon rise over the ocean.
