October, the best month

Love October!  It is a month of birthdays in our family, but also a delightful weather and color change here at the beach, with Fall-welcoming activities abounding......

At the beginning of the month we spent the day in Lewes at the annual Boast the Coast Maritime Festival, highlighted by the lighted boat parade.  This boat wins every year, entered by the Sea Scouts.

Fall says color and here is the beginning of color change noted by Jim's camera during the camera club's photo shoot at Trap Pond State Park.

Bethany Beach boardwalk all decorated.

Apples and pumpkins and all sorts of baking fun!

The Ashleys bought 824 A and will spend free time and summers here in Westwood!

October birthdays highlighted the month as we celebrated at Quiet Waters Park, ate lots, esp. cake and pie
and had a load of fun playing!  Wigs and moustaches and eyebrows seemed to be popular this year.

Hunter's moon as it rose over our neighborhood.

And here we are standing our ground during October's 4 day nor'easter which took out all of our newly replenished sand.  At the beach, you win some and lose some......

September in review

Labor Day and the funeral for summer officially end the summer season.  This year many people stayed a while, enjoying the wonderful sunny, warm weather  and ocean.

The Summer season ends.

Still nice weather for a picnic and a beautiful sunset on the bay at Fenwick.

August at the beach

And the busy summer continues!  It was Eva and Keelyn's turn to go to NYC with us, and their excitement made the trip even more fun!  They walked and walked, shopped at all the places on their list, saw Times Square at night which they remembered from their last trip with us, enjoyed WICKED and ate at Ruby Foo's.  All good!

Back to New York State we went with Will and Jenni to visit Gramps on a lovely weekend, esp ordered for the playing of the PGA at Oak Hill Country Club.

A trip to the Strong Museum of Play is required!

Remarkable sky!  We were trying to capture a picture of the MetLife blimp which was taking pictures of the golf tournament.

We had tickets to go to the Kennedy Center to see Book of Morman and went with a group from AARP.

Then back to the beach to take Will and Jenni to Assateague to see the ponies.

Will is an undercover spy watching the ponies.

......and always, the beach.

Bon fires on the beach

Enough rain to water the flowers

And the Green Corn Blue Moon rounded out the last month of summer.

More July.......

July has been very busy.  Kids and grands in and out having beach time with us and without us, enjoying all of our hot, beach-y weather.

Lillies are blooming and hydrangeas and hibiscus are beautiful this time of year.  We have had abundant rain this summer, for a change.

More yellow-orange colors in our harvest of yellow cherry and larger tomatoes.  We like these b/c they are so sweet.
Our garden contains green peppers, basil and other herbs as well.
Everything else we buy fresh at the Millville Farmers Market on Thursdays.

Sunsets are beautiful in the summer.

And full moons over the ocean as well.

David and his family had a beach week with us this month.  Here he and Jack explore the largest gun barrel found on a warship located at Fort Myles in Cape Henlopen.

At Seacrets in OC

and watching all the OC night life.

One night on the beach Eva noticed the red ocean and pink clouds at sunset and took this picture of it.  I had never seen such a lovely reflection before.

Jenni and Will came the next week which was a very hot one and enjoyed the surf.  Will has no fear!

My favorite time on the beach is in the evening.

The last week of July all 17 of us lived in these 3 lovely cabins for a few days on the Shenandoah River near Luray, VA.  Weather was perfect with warm, sunny days and cool evenings and nights.  Hot tubs adorned every deck and were frequented by the grands, esp.  I suspect that some of them never made it out of their bathing suits!

Stepping into the river, this was the view.

Bon fires were part of every evening's entertainment.  Large bundles of it were bought from a nearby farmer for 5 dollars a load.

RIVER ACTIVITIES:

So what do you do when you are a kid without wi-fi for a few days?
Play games!
Jenga......

and our new favorite, Spoons.....

Or you delight the adults with a "production" every evening by the camp fire!

Blessed mountain time.
